Poetic Genres
Alright, ladies and gentlemen. You have navigated here from the class homepage, www.scholastic.com/classhomepage. You have read through the examples of your chosen genre. Now it is time to develop a definition of this genre.
- What do each of the poems within this genre have in common? Think about the number of lines, the pattern of syllables, the pattern of rhyme, and the message/content of the poem.
- Once you have found some common features, pick one of the poems within this genre to respond to briefly (describe what you like/dislike, discuss what the poem is about, describe your reaction, draw connections to something outside of the poem, etc.)

Lyrics as Poetry
Many of us are familiar with musical artists that write poetic lyrics. Choose a verse from a favorite song, and then create a post as follows:
- Song Title
- Artists Name
- Write out the verse (appropriate lyrics only, of course!)
- Discuss the emotion that you relate to in this verse
